This Spring, I've been teaching a 10-week class called Beyond Limits. It's a hands-on, experiential class where we look at our lives as a laboratory for joy and success, and we apply specific tools to move us beyond our comfort zones (beyond our limits!) to live the life we want and deserve.
One tool we introduced is called joining the Unexpected Income Club! This is an especially useful and fun exercise for people who feel like money is tight right now. Or if you're feeling down and out.
Here's what it means to be a part of the Unexpected Income Club.
Every week, you:
- Document the different ways that unexpected income shows up in your life. Examples include finding change on the street, a friend buying you lunch, or something you intended to buy all of a sudden being on sale at a discount!
- Attach a monetary value for what you receive.
- Take 10% of the total value for the week, and donate it to a good cause (your church, a local charity, wherever you feel guided to recognize the unexpected ways you're provided for).
If you have any feeling of restriction in your life, like money isn't flowing as freely as you'd like, joining the Unexpected Income Club starts to open your awareness of how many ways you really are provided for.
And by documenting the many different ways you actually receive your good, you start to cultivate a feeling of gratitude and of joyous expectancy for more ways that your good can show up!
So I offer you this challenge. For the next month, make a commitment to join the Unexpected Income Club. Write down the ways you're provided for. Give 10% of the value to a worthy cause. And give thanks and celebrate the many ways you're provided for!
Please share any insights you get from this process. I'd love to hear from you!
